Pada akhir abad ke-12 dan awal abad ke-13, Sta Dominikus menyeru, mempromosi dan mendorong semua orang untuk berdoa Rosari.Bersama dengan Ordo Pengkhotbah yang baru didirikannya, St Dominikus berjuang menghentikan ajaran sesat yang berbahaya tersebut dengan memohon bantuan Santa Perawan Maria. Menurut lagenda, Bonda Maria telah meminta orang kudus itu untuk menyebarluaskan doa Rosari.
Melalui doa ini, kita mendoakan doa Bapa Kami, sepuluh Salam Maria serta Kemuliaan sambil merenungkan peristiwa-peristiwa besar yang terjadi dalam hidup Yesus dan Maria. Dengan cara demikian, kita semakin dekat serta akrab dengan Yesus dan Bonda-Nya yang kudus. Kita berusaha untuk meneladani hidup mereka yang kudus.
Antara orang kudus yang pernah mengalami kekuatan doa rosario ialah Sta Bernadette, tiga orang kanak-kanak dari Fatima dan Sri Paus V yang menetapkan Pesta Santa Perawan Maria Ratu Rosario dalam kalendar liturgi Gereja
