South Korea has officially become a 'super-aged' nation with 20% of its population aged 65 and over, raising concerns about the country's demographic future. The phenomenon is attributed to a very low birth rate, only 0.7 children per woman last year, far below the replacement rate of 2.1 needed to maintain the current population. This means the population is not only aging rapidly but also shrinking. The government spends billions of dollars to encourage births, including offering subsidies for egg freezing, but these efforts have not yielded significant results. The population is projected to decline by 39 million people by 2067, when the median age is expected to reach 62.
