A few months ago, Sonos faced significant backlash following the release of an updated version of its first-party mobile app. The app launched with several
missing features, like sleep-timers, alarms, and settings. It has also struggled with issues such as not recognizing certain speakers for pairing and difficulties in adjusting volume levels accurately. Specifically, music search and playback functionalities were neglected, leading to widespread customer dissatisfaction.
In response to this, Patrick Spence, the brand's CEO, issued a blog post apologising for the state of the app, acknowledging the 'significant problems' caused by the update and emphasised that rectifying the issues with the app is now the company's top priority. Spence somewhat sympathises with the frustration caused to users and assures them that Sonos is committed to addressing the problems.

Spence explained that while it initially aimed to quickly integrate missing features and fix errors, the app developers met with unforeseen challenges specific to the new app update. Despite these setbacks, it has been releasing updates approximately every two weeks to address any concerns to improve the app's overall performance.Moving forward, Sonos has outlined a roadmap for any further improvements to the app.
