Doi, a chef, met his Filipina wife Jocelyn at a hotel where they worked in Obama. Their new home after their marriage was an apartment just a one-minute walk from the Obama Church. Among their neighbors was Sister Michiko Harada of the Sisters of the Visitation, who had a community in the apartment building.
When Takumi was in elementary school, he enjoyed studying, playing musical instruments, playing with friends, preparing meals, and everything else he did. In addition to being an altar server and reader at the Obama Church, he watered the plants and trees in the church's garden., Takumi would take the 50-minute trip on his own to stay with them. Sr. Harada says,"He was a child who loved the Church.
"For example, when Takumi was unconscious after the operation when he heard his name and music, he showed a brain wave, albeit weakly, and even moved his body."
