Former prime minister John Howard says Chris Minns' election pitches have led to an 'enormous hole in his economic credibility' compared to Dominic Perrottet.
If Labor leader Chris Minns wins over voters in the state and succeeds Premier Dominic Perrottet, there won't be a Liberal government in power on the Australian mainland.
Mr Howard went on to criticise Mr Minns' major election pitch to lift the cap on public sector wages, which he says impacts 40 per cent of the state's budget. “Even Perottet’s fiercest critics admit infrastructure spending by the Coalition in this state has been fantastic over the last few years. When asked if he thought the Liberal Party has been"punished for pandemic politics", Mr Howard said: “I think the pandemic was part of it...but I think an even greater factor was the apparent factionalism and disunity in the Liberal party.”

Privatisation a ‘big issue’ for Chris Minns in NSW electionNew South Wales Opposition leader Chris Minns says privatisation is a “big issue” this election campaign and fears once the polls close if Liberals are re-elected they will sell off Sydney Water next. “It’s a big issue in this election campaign – in relation to privatisation, once the polls closed the toll roads were sold off, the buses were sold off and they tried to sell off the timber industry as well, the problem with privatisation is as soon as you’ve sold everything off and you’ve got nothing else to sell, how do you build for the future of New South Wales,” Mr Minns said. “My big fear is they’ll repeat the habit of a lifetime once the polls close if they’re re-elected, Sydney Water is out the door next and I don’t think this state can afford it.”

$60 toll cap is a ‘common sense’ cost-of-living measure: Chris MinnsLabor’s promise to provide a $60 toll cap per week for motorists is a “common sense” cost-of-living measure instead of privatisation, says NSW Opposition leader Chris Minns. “It’s important to note that the M5 east will be paid off eight times over as a result of the revenue coming into the privatised roll road company,” Mr Minns said at the Sky News People’s Forum on Wednesday. “So, this idea that you need to privatise infrastructure to build infrastructure – well that gets paid off again and again. “We’ve seen many people that live in Western Sydney as a result of tolls be crippled just because they have to get to and from work.” “So the toll cap comes into place directly to help families in New South Wales, it’s a cost of living measure that just makes sense.”
