Administrators’ deaf ears just as bad as a coach’s abusive behavior
Former players at multiple schools allege that Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, shown coaching Texas Southern during the 2013 SWAC women’s tournament in Garland, often addressed them in degrading fashion. In a piece written by Chantel Jennings and Dana O'Neil of The Athletic, former players accused Cynthia Cooper-Dyke of inappropriate and abusive behavior.
The athletic departments that let Cooper-Dyke slide should have to answer for it. Too often, the cries of their athletes were ignored. They weren’t heard. Suggesting to a player in front of the men’s and women’s teams that she would do better in drills if she weren’t having so much sex is disgusting. Cooper-Dyke, the first WNBA player inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, is a basketball legend.
