Marriages between the children of Sydney’s uber-wealthy have entwined big business dynasties in an intra-familial web reminiscent of a European court.
Donald Hay was the brush-making billionaire Australia never knew it had. His grandfather began the business in the late 1800s, but it was Don who rode the Chinese manufacturing boom and exported Hayco brushes - toilet, floor, tooth - to the world, becoming the Murdoch of moulding.
Theirs was among a spate of marriages between the children of Sydney’s uber-wealthy, which have entwined manufacturing, shipping and development dynasties in an intra-familial web reminiscent of a European court. The unions continued over this year’s European summer, when chicken scion Johnny Ingham married computer heiress and Waterhouse sister-in-law Rey Vakili.
In 2018, the eldest O’Neil son Ned married Deborah Symond, daughter of his father’s chum, Aussie Home Loans founder John and his first wife Kerrie Fox .
