A 22-year-old social media influencer in Malaysia was detained by police for allegedly posting offensive content on TikTok that belittled and insulted the Royal Institution and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The influencer is accused of making statements intended to cause harm, incite hatred, and provoke others, potentially jeopardizing public safety and national harmony. After issuing an apology on TikTok, the individual was released by the court, but investigations are ongoing and the case will be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further action.

“The investigation is being conducted under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,“ he said when contacted by Bernama today. Razarudin added that the court had rejected a remand application for the individual after the influencer issued an apology through his TikTok account.
