Social media abuse: MCMC raids 11 locations in several states

Raids, with police support, were carried out in Putrajaya; Petaling Jaya ; Perai and Simpang Ampat ; Kerteh and Kuala Dungun ; Pasir Puteh ; Kluang and Indahputra ; as well as in Bachang and Masjid Tanah following complaints by victims. Besides, he said, there were also offences such as the sending of unscrupulous SMS messages which were offensive and insulting and of threatening content with intent to harass and annoy others.
Mohd Shafie said that under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 it was an offence to post any content which is obscene, indecent, false, menacing or offensive in nature with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass another person
