An early-season snowstorm stretching from the Great Plains into northern New England brought heavy snows, widespread traffic accidents and sent a plane off a runway
The storm ushered in falling temperatures that were expected to reach record lows in some places Monday night into Tuesday.
American Eagle flight 4125, operated by Envoy Air, slid off the runway due to icy conditions at O’Hare after landing at 7:43 a.m., American Airlines said. No injuries were reported. The 38 passengers, who had taken off in Greensboro, N.C., and three crew were picked up and taken safely to the terminal, the airline said.
Hazardous driving conditions were reported from the Kansas City area into northern New York state. Buffalo and other parts of Western New York state were expecting six to 10 inches of snow through 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. “The roads have been really bad,” he said, causing dozens of cars to slide off roads, but no major accidents or injuries.“Our one inch isn’t going to hold a candle to the snow they’re expecting in the Great Lakes and Northern New England,” he said.
