CLEVELAND, Ohio – Heavy lake-effect snow slammed Ashtabula County overnight, and the first storm of the season could hit Greater Cleveland during the morning commute.

By mid-afternoon, the snowfall is expected to decrease with parts of Northeast Ohio seeing another 1 to 3 inches. “Roadways are closed to non-emergency travel due to extremely hazardous road conditions,” he said in a statement. “We want everyone to stay off the roads.”Ohio Department of Transportation reduced speed limits along I-90 in Lake County because of heavy snow.ODOT spokesperson Amanda McFarland urged drivers to watch local weather forecasts this morning before heading out on their commute and to drive carefully.
More than 70 snow plows were operating in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties at approximately 6:30 a.m. preparing for drivers to start their morning commute, McFarland said.“Make sure you have a full tank of gas and that your wiper blades are functioning properly,” she said. “If you lived in an area where it was snowing this morning, make sure you’ve cleaned off your car, including all your lights. It’s important that you can see out of your car but people can also see you.
