Despite studies showing that most eateries adhered to the smoking ban, the Health Ministry has extended the six-month educational enforcement period that was enforced from Jan 1, 2019.
"This shows the commitment of Malaysians in adhering to the regulation and ensuring the health and comfort of all when eating in public areas," he said in a statement on Thursday . Among the observations made was whether there was a clear display of no-smoking signs, presence of ash trays and people smoking in eateries.
, with 580 people signing up from January to April compared with an average of 428 for the same period in previous years.
