About 7 per cent of Australians are classed as "high cash users", relying on cash for more than 80 per cent of their in-person transactions. "We've gotten amazing feedback … we've put signage out in shops and educated our team to educate our guests."Kylie Johnson, a Red Rooster fast-food franchise owner, is weighing up the financial impacts of moving to a cashless business model.
But she said going cashless would be a "massive hit" to her customers, as cash payments accounted for 15 per cent of her earnings. "We also have seen a substantial increase in cyber security threats, 600-odd per cent since COVID," she said.
