The Rockets on Thursday received permission to interview 76ers assistant coach Sam Cassell, one of the stars of their two-time championship teams, a person with knowledge of the process said.other interviewsCassell has been an assistant for 14 seasons, the past nine working for Doc Rivers with the Clippers and 76ers.
Cassell began his coaching career with the Washington Wizards in 2009 when he was hired by his former coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Flip Saunders, to be on his staff in Washington. Former Wizards star John Wall often cited Cassell influence for helping him early in his career. In 15 NBA seasons with the Rockets, Suns, Bucks, Clippers, Celtics, Mavericks and Timberwolves, Cassell averaged 15.7 points and six assists.
