A six-year-old girl tragically died in NIBONG TEBAL after being trapped between the legs of a folding table while playing at her home. The victim was discovered by her eldest brother and rushed to the hospital by her mother. A post-mortem revealed the cause of death was cerebral oedema due to asphyxia. Police are investigating the incident under the Child Act 2001 but have found no criminal elements involved.
NIBONG TEBAL: Police are investigating an incident in which a six-year-old girl tragically died after being trapped between the legs of a folding table while playing at her home in Taman Seri Putera here.
South Seberang Perai OCPD Superintendent Chong Boo Khim said investigations revealed that the victim was found by her eldest brother trapped between the legs of the folding table at 4.15pm on Wednesday . She was rushed to Parit Buntar Hospital by her mother.Superintendent Chong said the case is being investigated under Section 31 of the Child Act 2001.
He added that a post-mortem conducted on Thursday morning determined that the cause of death was cerebral oedema due to asphyxia. “Investigations also found no criminal elements involved in the victim’s death,” he said, advising parents and guardians to ensure the safety of children at home and in public places.
In the incident, the victim, Nur Aqifah Humaira Abdullah, was reportedly playing alone at the back of the townhouse rented by her mother. Her mother and siblings were inside the house and only realised what had happened after noticing the girl had gone quiet.
