Six employees of the Vehicle Inspection Centre ( PUSPAKOM ) suspected of being involved in a syndicate that approved the inspection of heavy vehicles, have been suspended with immediate effect. PUSPAKOM Chief Executive Officer Mahmood Razak Bahman said the organization takes the matter seriously and will not compromise on any misconduct, especially involving the integrity of vehicle inspection operations. 'As I have stated many times, PUSPAKOM will not compromise on any corruption.
If there is evidence of wrongdoing, we will not hesitate to take firm action against any staff involved in such activities. This includes those who collude with syndicates and conduct illegal vehicle inspection activities,' he said in a statement today. He said PUSPAKOM is also conducting an internal investigation and guarantees that anyone involved in the crime will be handed over to the authorities for appropriate action. Earlier, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that his agency had arrested eight individuals, including six vehicle inspectors from PUSPAKOM, suspected of being involved in a syndicate that approved vehicle inspections recently uncovered. However, he said the six PUSPAKOM vehicle inspectors had been released on SPRM bail after their statements were taken, while two others, runners appointed by the group of six officers, were remanded for five days, starting today until Saturday
