Six Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency ( MMEA ) officers are currently on leave as police investigate a shooting incident that took place at Tanjung Rhu involving Indonesian nationals.

The Home Minister stated that investigations are underway and police have opened case papers against the Indonesian nationals under various sections of the Penal Code, including attempted murder, possession and importation of imitation firearms, obstructing public servants in their duties, and people smuggling under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007.The Home Minister expressed suspicions that the boat involved in the incident was engaged in human trafficking, but did not rule out the possibility of them also being involved in the smuggling of firearms and drugs. Following a meeting with the Inspector-General of Police and the Selangor police chief, it was decided that the MMEA personnel involved would be placed on leave pending the investigation.Police have identified one of the injured men as a transporter who facilitated the movement of undocumented migrants in and out of the country. The Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia has contacted the Home Ministry seeking access to their nationals who were hospitalized after the incident. The ministry has granted permission for embassy officials to visit them, stating that this is standard procedure when involving citizens of their respective countries. Earlier reports indicated that three foreign men, believed to have been shot, sought treatment at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah, Serdang.
