Despite attaining almost unrivalled success as a Premier League manager, Sir Alex Ferguson kept things relatively simple when it came to one tradition in the transfer market
The modern day Manchester United would do well to take inspiration from one of Sir Alex Ferguson 's transfer policies: sign the best player in the Premier League.
United's transfer portfolio is of more interest than ever before as the club looks to return to the glory days of old. However, the club would likely struggle to succeed in the same vein that Ferguson once did given the club no longer boasts the same pulling power as when he was in charge. "Manchester United had to buy that player, and I think that's why they always had to. . .they broke transfer records for Keane, they broke transfer records for Rooney, they tried to sign Shearer, tried to sign Gascoigne.
It's a straightforward scheme, though perhaps one that wouldn't be as easy to pull off today as it was 20 or more years ago. And Erik ten Hag may struggle to convince certain stars from Manchester City, Arsenal or Liverpool that their silverware hopes were better served at Old Trafford in the current climate.
