ICA suspends eCOA service due to 80 cases of unauthorized address changes by using stolen Singpass accounts. Additional security measures are being implemented to prevent further abuse.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority ( ICA ) of Singapore has temporarily suspended its electronic service for changing residential address es (eCOA) due to unauthorized attempts made by using stolen or compromised Singpass accounts. The perpetrators successfully changed addresses in about 75% of 80 reported cases, exploiting the 'others' module which allows address changes by a proxy.
The suspension aims to implement additional security measures like face verification technology during Singpass login and a one-time password option before address changes through the 'others' module. ICA is also contacting affected individuals, assisting with obtaining replacement NRICs and resetting compromised Singpass accounts.
