A 58-year-old Singaporean man was apprehended at the Woodlands Checkpoint for attempting to smuggle a substantial amount of drugs into Singapore. Authorities discovered over 5.6 kilograms of heroin, along with other illicit substances, concealed within his vehicle. The seized drugs have the potential to supply approximately 2,700 drug users for a week.

SINGAPORE (Bernama): A 58-year-old Singapore an man was arrested on Monday for attempting to smuggle drugs worth more than S$628,000 into Singapore , including over 5.6 kilogrammes of heroin.

Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said drugs comprising about 5,653g of heroin, 14g of ‘Ice’, 11g of ‘Ecstasy’ and 2,000 Erimin-5 tablets were found concealed in 15 black bundles in the car driven by the man during enhanced check at the Woodlands Checkpoint. ICA officers discovered 10 bundles concealed under the driver’s seat while another five bundles were found beneath the front passenger seat of the Singapore-registered car. 'As the bundles were suspected to contain controlled drugs, the man was immediately placed under arrest and the case was handed over to the CNB for further investigation,” ICA and CNB said in a joint statement on Thursday. The drugs could potentially feed the addiction of about 2,700 abusers for a week. Cash of S$48.60 and RM1,640.90 were also seized. In Singapore, those who import or export more than 15g of diamorphine or 'pure heroin' may face the death penalty under Section 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973. - Bernam
