The activist hailed a decline in Coalition support as Climate 200 won only one seat amid a crossbench of at least 11.
Simon Holmes à Court, the political activist who has driven the election of teal independent federal MPs, said the Coalition was suffering a long-term decline of support that was improving democracy by making more seats contestable for candidates outside the main parties.
With 51.7 per cent of the two-party preferred vote, Ms Hannan said she was confident of winning the seat, which includes the town of Bowral. She wouldn’t disclose how much her campaign cost, but said it was more than $50,000. Climate 200 filmed ads for her but didn’t donate cash, she said. Mr Regan, who is sometimes referred to as a “teal” candidate, said he didn’t ask Climate 200 for support. “I have been an independent since 2008 and it was not something I considered,” he said on Sunday.
