Get ready for a bit of a ride this week in the weather, you'll need sunnies to start the week and a sweater to end it.

The start of the week is going to look very different than the end in many areas of the southeast, as rain returns to multiple Australian states. There looks to be a significant wet weather event on the way that will likely drench parts of our southern states that desperately need the rain.

At the surface we have a cold front that will move through the Bight, then a low and associated frontal zones will bring a substantial rain event to the south. The cold front moves through the Bight during the day on Monday. With the cool change looking to head for Adelaide overnight, going from a forecast high of 31C on Monday to a high of 20C on Tuesday. The winds will pick up during the overnight hours with a few showers on the way.

On Tuesday, the Gippsland and Northeast should see the first day of substantial wet weather, with areas potentially seeing 40-60mm. As the low parks itself there, both Wednesday and Thursday could see pockets above 50-100mm. Melbourne could see three consecutive days with more rain than they did throughout the entirety of September. Picture: Sky News Australia Weather

Totals won't be as high as Victoria but will bring the potential for some moderate to heavy falls. Picture: Sky News Australia WeatherAfter a not-so-great end to the to the ski season for the alpine regions, the snow is back.
