Former Labor cabinet minister Graham Richardson has declared Gladys Berejiklian would have been “much harder to beat” as Sky News Australia’s expert NSW election panellists give their final predictions as polls close.
The contest is set to be one of the tightest in recent history with Labor needing nine seats to form a majority and only four to put them in the best position to secure a minority government.
But despite his confidence, the former Labor power broker conceded the ex-Liberal premier Gladys Berejiklian would have troubled the opposition more than Dominic Perrottet has. Clennell said the Coalition’s 35 per cent primary vote according to the latest News Poll was a dire position for the government.
“The teal strategy…to look after women’s policy climate change will be shown to have failed when really they should have stuck more to the bread and butter. Former deputy prime minister and federal Nationals frontbencher Barnaby Joyce said he held out hope for the Coalition but voters were likely tired of the 12-year-old government.“After 12 years people want a change of curtains not because the curtains don’t work but because they get sick of them.”
Ms Rowland said the polls could be “very misleading” arguing the existing high margins in electorates were “quite inflated”.
