Showbiz: Music industry legend Kesuma Booty dies
Burial is this morning at the Klang Gate Muslim cemetery.Kesuma, together with several music industry key players, among them Datuk Freddie Fernandez and the late Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan, were instrumental in the setting up of the Music Authors' Copyright Protection Berhad as a company in 1989.
MACP's aim was to promote and protect the interests of its members who are composers, lyricists, authors and publishers of music compositions. Kesuma was also part of the Booty Boys Studio and the Booty Boys band with his siblings Surya and Purnama. Many famous names passed through the studio in its heyday.
Datuk Sheila Majid is among those who started at the studio. In an interview last year, Sheila said she opted to try her luck singing back when she was 17 by walking into the Booty Boys' recording studio in downtown Kuala Lumpur.Two of Kesuma's children are also musicians; Alfa and Rumie.
