Lan said that his old friend, veteran actor Jalil Hamid of Lelaki Harapan Dunia and 2+1, suggested that he speak in Tamil to advise the public about staying at home. "In this way, we can show Malaysians that we appreciate each other's language and culture in the spirit of Bangsa Malaysia," said Lan.Lan said that he learnt to speak Tamil during his early days, growing up in an estate in Slim River, Perak.
