Australian rugby has been plunged into crisis after the sport's national governing body confirmed the Melbourne Rebels will not return to Super Rugby in 2025.

Rugby Australia on Thursday said it knocked back an application from a consortium hoping to take over the team next year as it “did not demonstrate sufficient financial viability”. The club’s axing drew the ire of sports lovers across the nation who criticised Rugby Australia’s move to reject the Victorian club.
Alongside Mr Voss, rugby podcaster Brett McKay questioned what will happen to staff member of the Rebels, who are gearing up for a game in Fiji on Saturday.
