Residents of a small Victorian country town say the intersection where two couples lost their lives is dangerous at the best of times and can be even more so for people not familiar with the area.

Two couples from Central Victoria were killed when their vehicle was struck by a B-double truck on the Hume HighwayPremier Daniel Andrews issues a plea for motorists to take care when drivingThe four people in the car — two couples aged in their 70s from central New South Wales — were killed.

"A guy who went to work, was just driving his truck, and has been confronted with something beyond his control that has resulted in him being involved in such a tragic incident."Camryn Anfruns works at the Chiltern Bakery & Cafe, one of the most popular coffee spots in town."I was on my lunch break when I found out, so I was kind of sitting by myself, and I walked in and it was a bit surreal," she said.

"I reckon they should bring the speed limit down a bit to 80 [km per hour] like they have in other areas," she said. Mr Hotson said the intersection was essential in order to access their home and cherry farm, adding that he was very aware of the dangers posed by the intersection."Following this, I'm sure there will be a review of how the intersection is. There have been a number of people caught at that intersection previously."
