At least one person has been found dead as the mayor of New Zealand's largest city declares a state of emergency due to major flooding, with shocking images and social media footage showing the devastation from record rainfall.
One person is dead and dozens of New Zealand residents had to be rescued from their homes and cars after its largest city was smashed with"unprecedented" record rainfall.

One traveller described the scenes inside the airport as"zombieland", with people wading through floodwaters with their bags or sleeping on dry patches of ground. Picture: Twitter Traveller Mark Andrews told stuff.co.nz the planeload of people had been provided meals but they had to be let back into the airport about 1:45am due to the lack of water.
