.LACoSheriff Alex Villanueva said the staff shortage at the department is getting critical with 783 vacancies.
"It's going to change. That three is going to become four, it's going to become five, in the high desert, it might become instead of 10 minutes for a code 3, it might become 20," explained Villanueva.
Part 1 crimes - which include robbery, murder and assault - were also up last year after several years of decreases. Villanueva said there are court orders and consent decrees, but with the staff shortage, he said he might not be able to meet those requirements, and he wants the federal government gets involved.
