Did SheHulk episode 2 just set up WorldWarHulk? Yes and no, says Jessica Gao 👀 '[We] wanted to make sure that people knew, ‘Don’t expect [Mark Ruffalo] to be in every episode...' But also, I think it kind of opens up the possibility [for that story]'
Warning: Article Spoils 1 Detail From She-Hulk Episode 2She-Hulk: Attorney At Law episode 2's possible World War Hulk set-up is addressed by writer Jessica Gao. Marvel Studios' current Disney+ series continues to tell Jennifer Walters' origin story as the MCU's latest superhero. After She-Hulk: Attorney At Law episode 1 laid out how she became a Hulk, the second one sees her navigating her new life after her superhero persona becomes publicly known.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY That being said, Marvel Studios is also using She-Hulk: Attorney At Law to tell Banner stories. In the premiere, Hulk revealed what he was up to after Thanos' snap in Avengers: Infinity War. The show also explained, albeit very briefly, how he's back in his human form, and why his arm, which was supposedly permanently damaged from the reverse snap, is now healed.
A big part of it is [Mark] did what he came to do on the show, and we wanted to make sure that people knew, ‘Don’t expect him to be in every episode from here on out.’ [...] But also, I think it kind of opens up the possibility, if Marvel chooses to, to do something with that, to pick up that story. If they wanted.
For the uninitiated, the World War Hulk storyline was written by Greg Pak for Marvel Comics and kicked off in 2007. The narrative finished the Planet Hulk plot, which was about Hulk's time in Sakaar, and revolved around the rage-filled Hulk blaming the Illuminati for his pregnant wife's death.
Marvel Studios is known for playing the long game, and despite initial criticisms of Phase 4 being directionless, Feige actually already has a rough plan for the Multiverse Saga. Given this, it isn't impossible that they will eventually use this set-up in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law to launch new stories for Banner. As one of the original Avengers still active in the MCU, there's a need to give him his own arc, the same way they did with Hawkeye and Thor.
