Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg responds to Bruce Campbell roasting the DC movie's box office failure. The DCEU is getting closer to wrapping up in light of the new DC Universe. However, the franchise had a rough 2023 already with Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The DCEU sequel has struggled at the box office, both domestically and internationally. The Shazam! sequel has almost made back its budget, but is unlikely to turn a profit for Warner Bros. Discovery.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT On Twitter, Sandberg reacted to Campbell roasting Shazam! Fury of the Gods' box office results. The tweet includes two clips, one of them featuring Sam Raimi gushing about the first Shazam! movie. The second clip then goes to Campbell speaking to a crowd at an event, asking if they had seen the sequel. But when they said no, Campbell jokes, "Neither did anyone else!" The Evil Dead comment is referencing Raimi and Campbell's collaboration on the horror franchise.
Some DCEU elements will carry over to the DC Universe, including Amanda Waller and Peacemaker. However, most of the others are presumably going to be finished after 2023. Still, Gunn and Safran could always integrate the Shazam Family in the post-The Flash universe. Even if it doesn't lead to Shazam 3, they could always be supporting players in the new universe.
It's also possible that if they ever use the Shazam! characters again, it will be rebooted iterations of them. However, it probably wouldn't be for a while since Gunn is focusing on other DC Universe projects. For now, time will tell what DC Studios will do with these heroes after Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
