Shawn Mendes Is Extremely Happy That Taylor Swift Recruited Him For Her 'Lover' Remix

Taylor Swift's good friend Shawn Mendes shared a positive message along with the new version of 'Lover.'

Now that fans have had a chance to take in the new version, Mendes took to Twitter to voice his support. "Thank you Taylor Swift for letting me join you on such a beautiful song," the singer-songwriter wrote, singing with an emoji heart.

"He has taken 'Lover' and he has re-written parts of it, which I think is so important because I love him as a writer," Swift explained in her own . "And I also think that everybody would write a different love letter to their lover and I think his take on it is so beautiful." Mendes' new lyrics include a reworked second verse that plays off the original's themes of romance and Christmas lights: "We could light a bunch of candles and dance around the kitchen, baby / Pictures of when we were young would hang on the wall / We would sit on the stoop, I'll sing love songs to you when we're eighty."
