Shanghai Airlines menjadi syarikat penerbangan berpangkalan di China kedua yang mengambil langkah meneruskan penerbangan terus ke Kota Kinabalu, berikutan kejayaan operasi China Southern Airlines April lalu.
Pembantu Menteri Pelancongan, Kebudayaan dan Alam Sekitar merangkap Pengerusi Lembaga Pelancongan Sabah, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, menyambut 159 penumpang penerbangan sulung Shanghai Airlines itu. Turut bersama beliau ialah Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap II Kementerian, Alesia Sion, Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Lembaga Pelancongan Sabah Noredah Othman dan Timbalan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Tay Shu Lan, menandakan kepentingan pembangunan ini untuk sektor pelancongan.
