The highly anticipated Shah Alam LRT line is set to begin operations in September 2025, promising to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance accessibility for commuters, and stimulate economic growth in the Klang Valley.
As Malaysians look ahead to the new year, they can anticipate a range of beneficial government initiatives. These include pro-green measures and improvements to public transportation connectivity. The highly anticipated launch of the Shah Alam LRT line is scheduled for September 2025. Dr.
Law Teik Hua, associate professor and head of the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Road Safety Research Centre, expresses optimism that this new LRT line, connecting Shah Alam with other key areas in the Klang Valley, will alleviate traffic congestion and enhance accessibility for commuters. He believes it will provide a much-needed travel option for those living near Shah Alam and Klang, easing the burden on congested roads and highways. Dr. Law anticipates that this development will not only improve the lives of residents but also create new business opportunities, stimulating local economic and urban growth. He also urges the government to invest in additional last-mile connectivity options, such as expanding the Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT) program to complement the new LRT line. The DRT program provides first- and last-mile connectivity to public transport hubs. In addition to transportation improvements, consumer protection will see a boost with the government’s plan to introduce a “lemon law” by March next year. This law aims to safeguard car buyers from defective vehicles. Dr. Saravanan Thambirajah, CEO of the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations, states that this legislation will finally resolve the long-standing issue of limited recourse for consumers who purchase defective products
