Singapore Exchange Ltd (SGX) achieved its highest ever half-year profit driven by robust performance in cash equities and derivatives. While listing revenues moderated, the bourse operator expressed optimism about future prospects and a positive pipeline of initial public offerings.
Singapore Exchange Ltd ( SGX ) announced its highest ever half-year profit since its initial public offering, driven by strong performance across all its business segments, particularly cash equities and equity derivatives. The bourse operator, which has faced challenges in attracting listings from high-growth companies in recent years, expressed optimism for the medium-term and noted an improvement in its pipeline of initial public offerings.
Looking ahead, SGX anticipates a moderation in some of the tailwinds observed during the first half of fiscal year 2025, attributing this to the tapering effect of the impact from the U.S. elections and China stimulus measure announcements. During the six months ending December 31, SGX earned S$12.7 million in listing revenues, a decrease from S$14.6 million in the previous year. Five new listings raised a total of S$19.7 million. A review group established by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, the country's central bank, is currently investigating ways to revitalize the local equities market following a disappointing performance in 2024. A report from this group is expected in August.SGX's cash equities business generated net revenue of S$192.6 million, a 22.3% increase year-on-year. Meanwhile, its derivatives equities business saw a jump of 21.6% to S$177.4 million. These strong performances contributed to the company's adjusted net profit reaching S$320.1 million for the reported period, compared to S$251.4 million in the previous year. This result exceeded the Visible Alpha consensus of S$304.5 million. The group declared an interim dividend of 9 Singapore cents per share, up from 8.5 Singapore cents a year ago
