Carlos Rodón polishes All-Star résumé in teams’ first meeting at Oracle Park since 2012 World Series.

SAN FRANCISCO — With a day off and Carlos Rodón on the hill, the Giants regained their footing in the first of two games against the Detroit Tigers.

Although it required a four-out save from closer Camilo Doval after a late rally against the Giants’ bullpen, San Francisco became the 13th team to reach the 40-win mark this season with 18 more to play until the All-Star break. Rodón continued to polish his All-Star résumé with six more strong innings Tuesday night. It took a two-out rally in his final inning — the sixth — for the Tigers to score their first and only run off San Francisco’s starter, who has allowed two total over his past 28 innings.

After a stretch of outings where he was struggling to put away hitters, Rodón admitted he was “definitely frustrated” and letting the little things get to him on the mound. He said he took a step back and realized, “It’s just a game. Try to have fun.” SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – JUNE 28: San Francisco Giants’ Evan Longoria #10 is congratulated by Darin Ruf #33 after they scored on a two-run RBI single by Mike Yastrzemski #5 in the fifth inning of their MLB game against the Detroit Tigers at Oracle Park in San Francisco, Calif., on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

In the fifth, Mike Yastrzemski did just enough with a 2-2 splitter to poke a ball into almost the same location that drove in Longoria and Ruf, who advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch from Tigers starter Tarik Skubal.
