Customer service software firm Zendesk is laying off around 490 employees less than seven months after its last layoff round. The cut includes including dozens of managers at the San Francisco-based company.
“When I joined at the end of November, I’d hoped a combination of improving macroeconomic conditions and streamlining costs would help us avoid this moment,” Eggemeier wrote in the message to employees. “Unfortunately, macroeconomic conditions have not improved and we find ourselves in an increasingly competitive marketplace.”to San Francisco in 2009 and a few years later signed a lease at 989 Market St., still the site of its global headquarters.
In their severance packages, laid-off workers will receive three months of salary, prorated portions of their annual bonuses and continued health insurance coverage, according to Eggemeier’s note to employees. He said the layoffs were “very hard decisions that I am truly sorry we had to make. You’re talented and passionate and we appreciate everything you’ve done for Zendesk.”
