Interior views of the extensive fire damage in a Lower Haight apartment building, after a three-alarm blaze earlier this week.More than a dozen San Francisco residents, including artists, a multi-generational family, people with disabilities and seniors, lost nearly everything — most importantly a place to sleep at night — in a

that tore through the top floors of a historical, four-story building in the city's Lower Haight on Wednesday.according to a GoFundMeWhile the top floors of the building were generally gutted by flames, the lower floors were drenched in water. The Phuket Thai restaurant on the bottom level that has been there sinceis temporarily closed. The San Francisco Fire Department deemed the five large units in the three floors above the commercial space uninhabitable.

The fire was first reported around 3:23 p.m. on Aug. 31 at 244 Divisadero at Haight Street, the fire department said. Sirens were heard across the city as tall flames rose above the large, easily recognizable building. More than 100 firefighters responded to the blaze, and they had it contained by 4 p.m. and extinguished by 5 p.m., the fire department said. Baxter said 13 people were displaced and will receive services from the city and the Red Cross.

"I think people are traumatized," said Zedekiah Schild, who has lived in the building for 10 years."One woman has been there 36 years. A family, 25 years."
