New Jersey can expect back-to-back days of severe thunderstorm threats heading into the weekend, when the heat wave is expected to finally break.
Winds gusts could hit 60 mph in the storms. Northwestern New Jersey has the higher risk of severe weather today.
Thursday will be the fifth straight day that at least a portion of the state has reached 90 degrees or more and Friday could be the sixth. Newark and Atlantic City reached 97 on Wednesday but fell short of high temp records. Trenton hit 93, well shy of the 99 degree mark the capital city recorded in 1983.
