Recent light winds and high humidity have combined to increase the severity of thunderstorms and heavy rains in large parts of Queensland today.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to spread inland and the eastern half of the state over the next few days.BOM meteorologist Felim Hanniffy said light winds had allowed the humidity to build up, increasing the risk of heavy rains."When you get several days of that humid air mass it allows the moisture to build up and it means rainfall is particularly the primary risk.

Humidity is expected to drop towards the end of the week, but daytime temperatures will be high until Sunday, according to BOM.
