The Chicago area is expected to see destructive winds and the possibility of tornadoes that could cause extensive damage.
Thursday was a beautiful day for baseball’s return as the Chicago Cubs played at Wrigley Field. But forecasters for Friday are predicting a much different outlook. The National Weather Service said starting around 3 p.m. the Chicago area is expected to see destructive winds and the possibility of tornadoes that could cause extensive damage. The service is warning people to be prepared.
“There’s still a lot of lingering cold air above,” Collis said, “and if there’s one thing storms like to feed on, it’s air that gets cooler with height.” Collis pointed out that the biggest threat of this storm are the destructive winds. The National Weather Service’s alert said winds could reach speeds of more than 75 miles per hour.
Afternoon update on our expectations for Friday's severe weather: The primary threats with these storms will be destructive winds in excess of 75 mph and tornadoes, some of which could be strong! Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings tomorrow!
