IPOH: Among the short-term solutions planned to alleviate the fly infestation and polluted water issues in Segari is to treat chicken waste.

Perak Public Facility, Infrastructure, Agriculture and Plantation Committee chairman Abdul Yunus Jamahri said the state Veterinary Services Department would treat the waste with effective micro-organisms , before either selling or disposing it.“Other methods included implementing enforcement efforts to control the infestation.

It was reported earlier this month that villagers from four areas in Segari had complained about fly infestation and polluted water, caused by poultry farms.Abdul Yunus said a discussion has been held with state Environment Committee chairman Dr Abdul Aziz Bari, Dindings Poultry Development Centre and other relevant agencies over the issue on Nov 8.

“It was also recommended for the Veterinary Services Department to control and conduct enforcement on unlicensed poultry farmers with less than 500 birds, ” he said.
