KUALA LUMPUR: Seven suspected human traffickers were arrested after a raid in an apartment here.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said that a human trafficking victim filed a report to the police on June 11, after alleging that he had been beaten by four Pakistani"agents".
"The agents were the same that had brought the victim, a 23-year-old Pakistani man, to Malaysia. His passport was taken from him, and aside from the beating, he was also threatened to never leave where he was kept," he said in a statement on Wednesday . Investigations showed that the incident occurred at an apartment in Jalan Pandan Perdana, leading to the raid.
"On June 12 at around 5.30pm, a police team successfully rescued four Pakistan nationals, and a further seven Pakistani men were arrested for suspected links to the case. A total of 22 Pakistan passports were seized as well as five clothes bags, three handphones and a broom that was believed to have been used to beat the complainant," he said.
It is known that the attack on the complainant stemmed from his insistence on taking back his passport.to our Premium Plan for an ad-free and unlimited reading experience!
