He has become one of the top players in Houston, earning recognition as one of 25 finalists for the prestigious Guy V. Lewis Award, a list that includes junior teammate Anthony Bates. The Spartans are in the midst of another stellar season, following a 33-5 campaign with a 28-4 mark through Tuesday's 74-72 victory against Paetow to remainAkpovwa provides a presence in the paint to complement a lineup of quick, attacking guards and wings. He is always ready to finish with a powerful dunk, work for a putback or score with a spin move, adding an astute timing for blocks on the defensive end.
"It was amazing to have all my family there, just really showing off that trophy off what all that hard work gave me," Akpovwa said."I'm really looking forward to playing there next year."
