PORT DICKSON: Seven people, including a juvenile, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court here to defying the movement control order (MCO).

The seven pleaded guilty separately before magistrate Siti Huzaifah Abdul Talib after the charge was read to them.

Labourer G. Vinoth Kumar, 43; blogger Reika Ratnam, 40; and bus driver R.Vijayakaran, 36, were sentenced to four days in jail from the day of their arrest and slapped with a fine of RM900 each in default seven days' jail. Labourer Mohd Helmi Hasmuni, 33, and unemployed Haslinda Sulaiman 25, were also ordered to serve four days in jail from the day they were detained and fined RM1,000 each in default 14 days' jail.Security guard Jamil Majid, 30, was also ordered to serve four days in jail and pay a RM1,000 fine in default seven days' jail.Of the six other accused, all except Vinoth Kumar paid the fines.

They were charged under Rule 11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act Regulations 2020. Offenders can be fined up to RM1,000 or jailed not more than six months or both upon conviction. ends
