The last thing Sergio Perez needed in Budapest was another qualifying crash, but the Red Bull driver again lost control of his car amid intense pressure to perform and save his F1 career
Sergio Perez suffered a further blow to his hopes of avoiding the Red Bull axe as he crashed out of Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying.
He lost control on the entry into turn eight and saw the rear of the car swing around and, from there, Perez was a passenger. He reported that he was unhurt after the left side of the car slammed into the barrier, but it is now his future with the team that is in danger. Horner said in Hungary that he has "a really open relationship" with Perez and has spoken to him recently about his struggles. The team boss said: "I sat down with him in the kitchen at my house and said, 'Come on, what's going on? Is there something else?'
One of the few people still in Perez's corner appears to be team-mate Max Verstappen who insists the Mexican has been "unlucky" of late. He said: "At the end of the day we are team-mates, and we always try to give our feedback to the car, and that's also what Checo has been doing. So he's been always fully contributing to that.
