Sergio Hudson loves a monochromatic moment, and last night the designer presented a new take on his label's signature look. Imagine '90s on-screen style icons like Cher's character onon an African expedition. “I wanted to have fun and incorporate my usually layered aesthetic into Spring," Hudson said, citing the sounds of Afrobeats and Beyonce's pop era, combined, as his initial touchstone."The theme of safari kept coming back to me.
On the runway, this vision manifested in the form of splashy new animal prints, oversized cargo pockets, and other utilitarian details. The bright, solid-colored suits we've come to love from the brand were updated with matching waist belts and round button details reminiscent of traditional ranger uniforms. And loose-fitting caftans were styled with matching sun hats and wide belts for a much more glamorous take on classic trekking garb.
Fully leaning into the concept allowed the brand to showcase a whole slew of new designs and silhouettes, all of which manage to stick true to Hudson's core DNA. The eponymous label experimented with bias-cut gowns, sending slinky slip dresses down the catwalk. There were also skirt and short suits in silk-satin and suede, and a selection of knits with playfully color-blocked stripes that are quite different from the single-color separates he's revered for.
