A counselling teacher in Seremban , Malaysia , pleaded not guilty to charges of physical sexual assault against two 11-year-old boys and possession of child pornography materials. Mohd Kharulnizam Muslin, 45, stands accused of assaulting the boys inside a counselling room at a primary school between early May and early September 2023.
The sexual assault charges were brought under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792), which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment and whipping upon conviction. Additionally, Muslin faces charges under Section 10 of Act 792 for possessing 180 images and videos of child pornography on a laptop in Taman Warisan Puteri on December 12, 2023. This charge carries a potential jail term of up to five years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both. Judge Datin Surita Budin granted bail to Muslin at RM10,000 with one surety for each charge. He was also subject to additional conditions, including restrictions on approaching the victims or witnesses, monthly reporting to the nearest police station, and surrendering his passport to the court. In a separate case, a 72-year-old senior citizen, Said Sapie, pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl at a beach in Kuala Lukut, Port Dickson, around 1pm in March 2021. The court granted Sapie bail at RM10,000 with one surety and imposed similar conditions as Muslin's, requiring him to report to the police monthly and avoid contact with the victim and witnesses
