'In the face of unimaginable horror, ordinary people became extraordinary heroes,' one letter writer notes.
Letters To The Editor | The Jersey JournalSept. 11, 2001, was a day that changed the world forever. It was a day of terror, tragedy and loss; but it also was a day of courage, heroism and hope.
On that fateful morning, 19 terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes and crashed them into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a field in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people perished and more than 6,000 were injured that day. The attacks were orchestrated and executed by al Qaeda, an Islamic extremist group, led by Osama bin Laden, who blamed the United States and our allies for strife in the Muslim world.
