A San Antonio man could spend nearly four decades in prison for a “senseless act of violence” that left a man dead last year, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said.

Michael Montoya, 20, was sentenced Thursday to 35 years in prison, having pleaded guilty last month to murder in the 2022 death of Paul Butler. Montoya must serve at least half of his sentence before being eligible for parole.Police said Butler was the supervisor in charge of renovating a home on March 12, 2022, when Montoya approached from behind and fired multiple times. Butler was killed instantly.
